ABOUT

Christmas Trees of Vermont, at Farm on the River, sits on a beautiful parcel of fertile river bottom land between Skitchewaug Mountain and the banks of the Connecticut River in Springfield, Vermont.  The land has a rich agricultural history dating back to the early Native Americans.

HISTORY OF THE TREES
The land was first planted with Christmas trees in 1982 and upon acquiring the farm in 2016, our family began the process of transitioning the land to organic production. We grow our trees using no herbicides or pesticides; Our weed control consists of solely mechanical means such as hand-weeding and mowing. Our land and Christmas Trees are now Certified Organic by Vermont Organic Farmers (VOF).

PRESERVING THE LAND
Together with the Vermont Land Trust, we preserved the land under a Conservation Easement, ensuring that it can never be developed and will continue to be farmed in perpetuity.

OUR PAST & THE FUTURE
While we are relatively new to this land, we are not new to farming. We’ve spend the past 30+ years growing organic vegetables. You may be curious (and worried!) as to why many of the fields are being cleared of trees. This is because we are converting some of the land near the river to organic vegetables. We are replanting and continuing to nurture our Fraser trees in the fields closer to Route 5. We are committed to continuing the tradition of Choose & Cut Christmas trees into the future and welcoming families to make memories on our beautiful farm.

We look forward to seeing you this holiday season!
